tacho accuracy
my tacho seems to be reading alot lower rpms than what it sounds like to my ear, at idle it reads 600rpm but sounds mor like 800-900 and when driving 2500rpm sounds closer to 3000rpm.. is there anyway i can check the rpm without buying a new tachometer?

Should be around 2000ish at 60km/h depending on your tyres.

SUCH IS LIFE
I would say it will depend on the vehicle you have, tyres you have, diff ratios, etc..
But if you just think it sounds different then I reckon you could borrow another tacho and check or get a scangauge or similar to check or hook it up to a consult system to check.

Guess you could work it out with a gps? Speed travelling and what the tacho reads, then use your diff ratios etc
Pretty sure I saw a website somewhere that had all the formulas to work it out.

Eric.

600 would be quite recognizable, but I do not see exactly why you should worry over the meter if the sound is fine?

Altough, the glow system for a diesel would be wired such to stop at more then 2400 revs (or so). You could try to listen to the relay when hitting more then 2400 revs?
