Sounds more than plausible to me Ben mate!
My 6.5NA tractor donk bolted onto the 4.2 stock manual box can chug as low as
-500rpm under crawling load. The chatter of the combination is greater than any other stock 4.2/manual combo I’ve ever owned, all good still we hope :-)

Has anyone bought the TD42T from new?
Did it do it straight out of the showroom floor too?

Yes it did it from the very 1st day back in June 2006.
Service manager at dealer was expert with the 4.2's and loved them. He said it was the design of and the way gears were cut for strength. It was hardly noticable at first and it WILL only get worse but is not a problem,
My son's GQ ute with close to 600k is very loud but my GU is still acceptable.
Treat it as a badge of honor as you have the very best.
At the end of the day, all you have is yourself and all you need is your friends (and in our case our Patrol)
