If your engine is not turning over fast enough when cranking.
I would start by checking and cleaning the battery terminals, also check the main earth connection to the engine and power connection to the starter motor.
A good indication of a bad connection is heat, so after you have tried to start it a couple of times have a feel of the connections.
Also check your battery, most auto electricians or battery suppliers will do this test for free or you could try connecting a jumper battery.
If all the above are ok, you more then likely have a problem with your starter motor.

Check your battery voltage, anything less than 12v and I'd be looking at a new one. While running should be around 14 volts. I'd be checking cable connections for corrosion and poor contact, bad earths usually cause poor starter performance. Failing that, starter solenoid/starter motor could be on its way out.
Edit, already mentioned, doh.

Bicarb soda (baking soda) mixed with hot water, helps to neutralise the acid and corrosion. Make sure to give the area a good wash down with running water afterwards.
You will also need to remove the battery terminal and give them a good clean, both the terminals and battery posts.
