    Wobbly gear knob

    Hey folks,

Driving back after a weekend away, suddenly gear knob is really loose! Can still get into the correct gear and it doesn't drop out of gear, so guessing there is some kind of 'plate' that the gear knob sits into, which guides it or gear selection .... And guessing this is broken/missing..... Anyone had this before? And fixed themselves?

    Wobbly gear knob

Sounds like the gearstick bushes has died. I believe that you can remove a plate from inside the cab on some vehicles under the shifter boot and remove the gear stick and replace the bush. But honestly not sure on patrols I did it to a mates Mazda 808 and it was a piece of pi$$ maybe pull the boot up and have a look you may also be able to shift gears from there if you really have to otherwise check the workshop manual out

Yeah, under the boot theres a series of bolts holding top cover plate.
remove that you'll see nylon bush etc that needs to be replaced

Dont even need to go that far mate. Its just a circlip holding the stick in and theres a nylon bush that comes out with the stick...

    Hey All ......

Just replaced the bottom bush and the top bush (official Nissan parts from Nissan Garage as per above) and the boot (which was totally fallen apart) .... and it's still wobbly
    Any more ideas?
Is it likely to be the spring that sits under the top bush?? Or something further inside the gearbox?

    Help!

    Wobbly gear knob

Yeah when I replaced both my bushes it got tighter in 1st, 3rd and 5th but is still wobbly in 2nd, 4th and reverse. Have never worked out what is going on. Just leaned I live with it.

    Sorry I can't help.

    Wobbly gear knob

Might be a linkage or selector fork problem for that you'll have to remove the gearbox. I suggest you go see a gearbox specialist and tell him what's going on and that you've replaced the bushes and see what they say
