Remote central locking in a gq
Wondering if anyone's fitted remote operated central locking on their gq patrols? Has central locking as standard, but would love to just unlock at the touch of a button. There seems to be a lot of kits available on eBay, can anyone recommend any of them? How difficult are they to wire up?
Cheers
Andy

A simple central-locking kit can be bought from an automotive store from about $45 + depending if you want immobiliser, alarm as well.
I have not yet done central locking in a GQ, but have repaired and installed alarm / central locking in other vehicles.
Central locking is fairly simple, as you just connect servos in each door to a control box, to a power supply.
Alarm systems and immobilisers on the other hand that use ignition, lights and other things can be difficult and sometimes a little fiddly.
If you can use some basic electrical and hand tooling, and find wires etc it's just fiddly if you solder, wrap and make it neat.
I found the only difficulty with installing central locking is only the mounting of servo units in the doors.
Getting the right angle, push-rod length and getting hands into the doors is an issue.
Have a crack and save yourself some dosh.

My gq came with a viper alarm fitted.
It is a 91 TI - power windows, central locking?
When I activate the alarm all the doors lock & the windows go up.

GQ tank. I wanted one of those for my v8 'other car' I had but too costly at the time. Is a nice touch when parking etc.

My old GQ had it and I missed it on my last car - I'm sure you can do it yourself - I reckon if its fun for you then give it a go - if its a truckload of frustration then spend the $$ and have it done

Yeah it's easy to do. Just get a slave actuator for the the drivers door lock. All the other doors have actuators the drivers door just has a switch. Then get a remote immobilizer kit. It will have an output for central locking. Jaycar are a good start. Maybe have a look at these, they have worked great for me.

They are pretty easy to wire up and by doing this you will have remote central locking and an immobilizer for extra security.
