3.0ltr TD Auto 2005 GU4 Patrol Transmission problem

When cold and put into Drive the car pulls away very slowly and takes about 10 minutes of driving before it starts to behave better.
In reverse there is very little drive to the point, the other day, when it wouldn't reverse onto my driveway which is a very slight ramp. I had to sit there for 30 seconds with the engine revving before it would actually move
Has anybody experienced anything like this?
