    spark problem

Hey boys, having an issue with the trol last few days. Started last sunday was driving and the trol cut out completely, tryed to start her up again she cranks but no start. Had a look for spark at the plugs and NO spark. Kept trying but couldnt get any spark out of her. Towed her home and left it overnight. Next day she started up again no problems like nothing had happened. Anybody have an idea what could have caused this? iive recently installed the pertronix ignitor II, Leads, Rotor button, dizzy cap, spark plugs and the ignition coil are all new. i tested the coil just in case it was stuffed here are the results:
    Primary Windings = 1.5 OHMS
Secondary Wingings = 16.25 Kohms are these readings in spec?

if anybody has any ideas or could lead me in the right direction that'd be awesome thanks

Did you have 12 volts at the positive side of the coil when it wouldn't start?.

Do you have an alarm fitted?

You could try disconnecting the tacho or anything else that is connected to the negative side of the coil such as radio suppressor, LPG?? only leaving the pertronix connected.

What brand of coil is it?. The secondary winding resistance doesn't sound right.....check manufactures spec.

Does it only play up when engine is hot?

    thanks for the reply yendor.

Unfortunately i didnt have a multimeter at the time when it wouldnt start so couldnt check

the voltage to the coil, but i tested it when i got it back home and started again and it

is receiving exactly 12 volts. If it wasnt receiving 12 volts, is it possible that the

batttery voltage was low? although the battery warning light didnt not come on.
I do have an alarm fitted, could that possibly be the issue?

Its running on gas so i cant remove the LPG wires to the coil

The coil brand is 'Fuel Miser'. Other than that i dont have any other information about it

Ive had a look at manufacturers specs here they are:

    Primary Voltage: 12

    Primary resistance: 1.08 - 1.32 Ohms

    Secondary Resistance: 9.0 - 13.4 Kohms

The results for my coil are higher than the manufacturers specs:

    Primary Windings = 1.5 OHMS

    Secondary Wingings = 16.25 Kohms

so i guess this coil is stuffed? shouldnt be, its brand new. unless i was supplied w wrong coil.

The spark cut out after about 15 minutes of driving, so i guess when it was hot. What could that indicate?

    spark problem

The coil is stuffed from memory. There's oil in the coils which are supposed to keep them cool. You might have pick up a dud.

It's been 13 years since I was an apprentice mechanic so someone else might be more clued on. But I am sure that's your problem

New coil, did the same thing. Spark cut out about 15 mins driving when the engine gets hot. Had voltage to the coil, 12.20v(when running measures about 9.8v). Last time this happened, it refused to start up again, but after leaving it overnight it started again in the morning when it was cold. There could be too much resistance building up somewhere as the engine heats up? i measured resistance between the neg battery terminal with engine cold, 0.7 to 0.8 ohms, with engine started and heating up i got 6.3ohms, is this too much resistance?

    Re: spark problem

Gday mate, I fitted a pertronix2 ignitor and a new coil. After 15 minutes if driving it would start cutting out badly. It would still drive but would break down spark very badly. Turns out my pertronix2 ignitor module was faulty from the start. I got test instructions from the manufacturer which I have posted in the manuals section of this forum under "other manuals", the thread is called pertronix test instructions.
Once I found that it was a faulty module, I got a replacement and it fixed the problem straight away.

Do I notice pertronic II modules have a habit of being faulty BNIB ?.
