Smart like tractor
The biggest thing that no one has mentioned is servicing. One of the blokes at work has a grenade model 3L with close to 400,000 on the clock, completely untouched, the motor is as clean as a whistle as he has an intensive service shedule which he meets.

Patrol God
Ben e boy some Z30 may only travel a short distance to work everyday and never warm up properly,
others may travel 100k each way to work. seems there is no one common thing linking the grenades
except year of make. servicing must play a huge part, oil type, filter used etc. looks like all these things
need to be spot on. IMO luck is the single biggest factor. I have heaps of thoughts on this issue.
Good on him for such a trouble free run. If yours is a daily driver look at condition over all to someone
who has company car, and parks the Patrol for sometimes weeks one end,

Save the money on a boost gauge and put it towards a Scangauge or equivalent. Absolutely brilliant bit of kit and will display what the ECU is seeing as boost, water temp, fuel flows, volts, engine load, etc etc also reads any fault codes and some handy trip computer functions like fuel used/remaining etc. Can also be calibrated for accurate speed if you don't have a GPS onboard

As far as I can tell, you really don't need to do a thing to the CRD when purchased new except perhaps extend the warranty if you plan to own it 5+ years.
EGR block is not a bad idea, ditto for a catch can, but if you aren't modding for power and don't work it hard then IMO there's no real need for boost or EGR gauges.
Certainly no need for Dawes or needle valve unless you have an early CRD which doesn't seem to have as good an ECU as the 2008 re-mapped one.
