Hi All
Just did a run up to Cervantes and back for Easter (around 660kms all up). Most of the trip dome at 110km/h, some time spent 4WDing in soft sand and touring around the town. Returned 12l/100km. Not too bad as I was pushing a bit up the hills. I suspect it would be a bit more economical to sit on 100km/h tho.
ZD30 auto. 305/70/16.

I have a GU 2006 3.0 with exhaust and snorkel, otherwise all standard. Just completed very heavily loaded (all camping gear etc) trip from Gold Coast to Alice Springs via Plenty highway, then south to Marla, Oodnadatta, (road all mud and water-heavy going) then back home via Birdsville. Total 7,287 km and 920 litres for 12.3/100. Best was a slow cruise at 80 km/hr for 10 l/100.
Town mileage is usually 13 +

Hi Dr Gary, doing a similar trip with a 3.0 myself in 6 weeks time. From Toowoomba to Alice Springs then on to Katherine Gorge back over to Townsville and back down the coast towing a 14' van. I hope to get 10 -11 litres/100. I have chip,3"exhaust and snorkel fitted to mine. Fuel economy is awesome since fitting these mods!!! Can't wait to get going and having a look at our backyard. Cheers Fang.

We went via Boulia and Plenty Highway. The Plenty is VERY rough and we decided next time to go further north via Barkley Tablelands. That would be a reasonable choice returning to Townsville.
If you choose the Plenty, allow extra time and keep fuel topped up--we got caught at Gem Tree where fuel was $2.30, while Alice was only 140 k down the road and much cheaper.
Let me know how your economy works out
