GQ radiator
Howdy I can get a ali radiator for my GQ with a 70mm core....is this a good thing or does the extra thickness actually make it harder for the air to get though or limit the flow in any way ? also the coolant that is recommended for the TB42/E would or does it harm ali radiators ? sorry if this has been brought up before somewhere but I cant find it if it has.....this rad can be brought for $399 NZ down from $599 I don't have any problems at the moment but just wondering if it is one of those things a person should buy for those "just in case moments" or for the price anyway....will try and put up a link.......cheers

If it ain't broke, don't f with it...
You do have to be carefully though. If its a cheapie then you may well restrict air flow.

Radiators need to be electrically insulated from the body of the car hence the rubber mounts.
Electrolysis will destroy any metal radiator reguardless of metal type if not insulated.
Alloy friendly inhibitor is what your after.
I know your looking at alloy, A mate bought a copper, thicker, ebay special and it restricted flow and he noted a hotter engine straight away.
So, guess on sale as it suffers poor air flow to, trying to clear em out.
Read between the lines, claims made but no facts quoted to back it up
Was going to write a whole story about pros and cons of rad performance, way to long.
look at ebay, similar prices for alloy so $599 is the con.
enough said.
Cheers

Ive replaced the factory style alloy radiator in my GQ awhile ago
Stooopid plastic headers tank on them anyway, they are rather thin for what they are
I went a thicker over the counter copper core, steel tank jobie, was actually cheaper, and to date no issues at all
Regardless of cost, id hate to buy something cheap now for a rainy day then find after it sits around it didnt fit,or do the job properly

Thanks also MQ Mad you also have just helped me save the 399 deleros for that rainey day that may never come...great thing about this forum you can get good ideas thrown back at you so you can re-valuate that potentially disastrous or expensive decision that we all can sometimes make ........
