My little compressor went.. Well nothing

Well it was working last trip, did 8 tires, then nothing...
And I think I know the issue but not sure why it's wired like it is..




So + power comes threw the case to the solenoid and continues to the motor. Earth is a general earth (soldered together under the cap.)
The orange wire runs power to the switch, then switch to inside the motor case (first WTF) then back out to the solenoid, across it and out to the general earth to open and close it..
But (2nd WTF) what is that yellow thing jumping across the open/close points of the solenoid?? Does it need to be there. What does it do??

I would say the first WTF would be the wiring going to the temperature switch.

The second WTF is a capacitor, if it's across the switch terminals of the relay I would say it to stop the relay from chattering on and off.

It will either be the Thermo Safety Cutout in the motor body ( Most Likely ), the Motor Itself ( Likely ), or the Solenoid itelf ( less Likely ) as long as you are getting 12 Power to the Compressor.

You should be able to determine if it is the Thermo-Safety Cutout, Solenoid, or the motor, by using your multimeter and checking voltage.

The yellow Block is definitely a capacitor, and isn't required to make it work as such, since it will work without it, but it is unlikely to be the cause of the compressor not operating.

Cheers guys. Well I'd hope it's not the temp switch unless it's kaput because it's only 18 degrees when I tried to use it and mid 20's when I used it last..
But it's not the first one to have temp sensor fail on me..
I'll dig a little deeper..

The cap is to stop spikes in voltage as the solonoid contacts open / close, on a DC circuit the voltage can get quite high (it acts similar to a coil ignition when the points open). But it appears to be across the coil which I would have thought to be unnessasary.

Do you have a voltmeter?, there should be 12DC either side of the cap, if not switch isnt working or the thermal has failed.

The cables in and out of the motor are thermals, you could bypass the thermal to test that is your problem.

Could also be the solonoid coil is open circuit and wont pull the motor contacts in so motor no go as you have found.

Is it a quality compressor or a cheap init???

Mid range. It's a HD Projecta 75L/ min 150psi.

I have a fault light and I think I know were to test next.. The switch does work. I have power coming across the switch.

Quick question. How well do they work under the bonnet if I bypass the temp sensor as I think this is my fault..
