In the end I was too late for the Aldi rod and reel combo. I now bought a Jarvis Walker Expedition Telescopic 8'. Has a 12lb line on the reel. Packs down nice and small (75cm) and was only $29.

If anyone wants "free" sunglasses or a watch let me know and I PM the proof of purchase code. I said "free" because it's 9.95 shipping.
I have a watch and I wear glasses so no use for sunnies.

For Bait the locals up here (on the Murray) use mozzarella cheese, works well.

Murray and fraser are totally different fishing types. On fraser you can do beach fishing so you'd want a longer rod. I also had a long distance casting set up to punch big lures off the rocks.

Beach fishing really needs 2 rods. A light one for whiting, etc. A heavier setup for salmon, tailor, maybe jew.
