Yeah white smoke is unburnt diesel. It sounds like it may be timing related you will need specific tools to set it and is probably best left to a specialist. With the right tools the job is quick an easy and shouldnt cost to much getting someone to do it.

thanks. going to ring around tomorrow and get it looked at.
Can also be related to low compression I hear, but hopfully everything else is ok. head gasket was replaced with the same 3 notch one, so that should be at least right

Yeah it can be compression related too. Get a compression test to I find it strange for compression since its just had a rebuild.

Give it a while to let the new rings bed in.
When you fitted the rings, are you sure they are up the right way.?
After honing the bores, did you wash them with soapy water.?
Is the inlet manifold nice and clean?
So much for brand new Ebay injectors lol.
Parts like injectors need to be the best quality, not some busted arz Chinese import.

ah ok, yeah took it for a drive and it is less smokey now. might just be the 2nd hand injectors running in after sitting idle so long (from a wreck)
can it blow white smoke while the rings are bedding in?
yep all parts installed correctly and bores washed etc. manifold had a very good clean.
learnt my lesson with those ebay reco injectors *sigh* what a waste of money

White smoke is cold engine and /or low compression/ poor ignition, once the rings have settled it should improve.
If your valves are too tight, it will smoke as well.
Just drive it normally and don't idle it while the rings are bedding in.
Should clear up after 1000 ks.

Hi mate.
When I rebuilt my engine I also fitted new nozzles. But when I checked them on pressure stand each of 6 had a wrong open moment pressure and needed to have some regulations.
Also when I fit all new parts I refit the injection moment because I changed it a year ago and with normal pressure in cylinders I had white smoke too. So maybe you should recheck your nozzles for pressure test and check the injection moment, may be previous owner also changed it.
