    Manual brake bias mod :)

My Trol failed it's MOT (UK) 'cause the rear brakes weren't working
So as I'd recently done a body lift and suspension lift I assumed it was simply the Load sensor needed adjustment. It wasn't , it was fooked, as in solid, siezed, chuffing useless
I rang my local motor factors for a price and was gasping for air shortly after being told it would be £440 + 20% VAT
Re think............................................. .............ah, manual brake bias it is then . a quick spy on ebay and I bought a "Willwood" copy manual brake bias adjuster lever. It's got 7 preset positions on it ranging from 60% to zero. £43 , sorted
Bought some new pipe and fittings too and got my spanners out.
    Here's my starting pack

Decided to mount the lever next to the gear lever as there's plenty of space there and the brake pipes run on the chassis just below.

Oiked off all the plastic surround and drilled a hole to fit the lever.

Mounted the lever in place and was pleased

Here's a shot of the pipes fitted in and out. This is the original pipe to the back end on the input side and then new pipe off the back going off to where the sensor valve was.

Here's where the old load sensor was, I simply binned the old one and fitted instead a simple T piece.

I changed all the pipes at the back end as they were corroding under all the brake clips :@ Then bled the system and refitted the gear lever surround. I had to trim that a bit to make room for my fat fingers to grip the lever

While I was under the old girl I noticed the diff lock actuator had some iffy pipes too. So used some more brake pipe to replace that too.

All,s well again now and it passed the MOT with flying colours, infact I had to adjust the back brakes down a bit as they were too high. Nearly as much as the front lol.
next day went for a quick spin offroading , just to make sure it was all working still
Here's a quick clip of a little hole we found to play in

I can now effectively switch off the back brakes for erm, well tyre warming lol
Also in theory adjust them up a bit and left foot brake to kick the back out a bit. Will be experimenting next weekend "offroad" ofcourse.
I thought Australia was more free state than our "Nanny" state ?

Nice mod mate, as said i am not sure Aus Laws would allow that but good job for sure.

On a side note i assume that is an Auto gear box surround you have around your manual box?? Looks sweet, i have thought about chasing one of those and doing that, Finishes it off nicely. We have No Surround around our gear sticks here.
    Its a Nissan! =====> Its a Keeper!! ....... Got a TD42 in it BONUS!! ....... I'm a lucky bugger! I've got 2 of em!

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Nice effort to mod a problem.
    Understand your thinking but
Why bother altering something that self adjusts to something you have to adjust constantly.
Remembering load lightens simply buy driving.
modified brakes system you will need an engineers certificate one would think.
Have an accident without certificate recon insurance company's would fail to pay up if you have a bingel.
Need to be able to demonstrate what you have done doesn't affect the existing system in a neg way.
manual adjustment, verses automatic that does have engineering signed off on is the sticking point.

Dont get me wrong I admire your efforts, but think you could come undone if you have a accident.
Hope you never need to find out.
Also recon if the other/better half drives, are they willing to manually adjust it constantly too !
If they had a prang, who's at fault !

I see at work to many accidents and deaths on the road.
I'm speaking up simply out of concern, for you and anyone else that considers removing the automatic bias valve.
Or I'm just getting to old and fussy now I'm a Poppy.
Even this makes me think twice about what I do to my car, if the little ones are going to ride in it.
Think you see where I'm coming from.

    Cheers

If you were so worried about price, then an option is.
You will need for you car the GEN nissan exact part number and contact say rhdjapan.com for a price.
If UK $$ are like AU $$ it could be possibly as low as half the cost direct from Japan via these fellers.
but get the part number wrong and you have an expensive paper weight.
and dont just trust the local guy to give you the correct number more times than not even the spare parts guy can get it wrong. you need to be sure as wrong is your problem.
