Thomson State Forest trip 28-29/9/2012

So me and a mate left on Friday to head to Donnelly's Creek Track after work and hoped to get a hut there and camp the night. Turns out all the huts were taken so we camped at Store Point for the night.


Donnelly's Creek was crystal clear!


Then at 7am it started snowing! Didn't last long, maybe 10 minutes.


Daihatsu left his radio on overnight (rookie mistake) and needed some Patrol lovin!


This is the hut we camped near, was empty in the morning. Been rebuilt recently (dunno how recently) but top job by everybody involved in it!


We headed out to finish Donnelly's Creek Track and then work out where to go from there. The higher we got, the more snow there was.

We left there and did a couple of tracks but I don't remember what they were called, I'll look at the map tomorrow. We cut off at least 20 trees from the tracks. Went through 5L of two stroke fuel with 2 chainsaws going, then we ran out and couldn't cut any more off so had to turn around and go back up.


It started snowing really heavily going back up these tracks so we decided to go back to Mt. Useful to have a look. The snow had mostly melted but got a nice cover while we were up there. So cold!






On the way back down the snow started really coming in, wasn't even melting on the hot bonnet!

Donnelly's Creek was much deeper than it was the night before, almost completely covered my tyres.


Back on the main road and ready to get home!





Had an amazing weekend, photos don't do it justice. Can't wait to get back up there!

And your mate looks a bit vertically challenged with that Suzuki.. Tyres on it I know well (pretty crap) and the ground clearance is non existent but still having fun.

Nah no winch yet, coming soon though. Yeah he's pretty low, looking into lifting it but there aren't a lot of off the shelf kits for it. But you're right he is still out having fun and that's all that really matters.
