Not another dual battery setup question, surely.....
Hi, I'm Rob and I'm a borderline retard when it comes to dual battery setups.......
I want to put my own system in to keep it simple. I had an automatic one years ago and it confused the hell out of me and I didn't like it.
I was thinking a simple system with a manual switching mechanism and 2 x starter batteries. My current starter battery is great, so I was thinking of getting the biggest one I can for the auxiliary. The biggest I've seen so far is N70ZZ (IIRC). It'll be used to run a fridge, led camping lights and other small stuff. I want them connected together when I use the winch. I also plan to connect the auxiliary battery up to a solar panel when camping.
So I'm thinking of getting one of these so I can simply switch: -

And putting in a 200 amp fuse on both batteries.

Does this sound enough? Like I said, I want it simple, I'm a simpleton, I reckon I can install this myself and keep it simple. What do you think.
(Also, is there a bigger cranking battery available than the N70ZZ?)

would work(providing you rember to turn it on and off) and would be verry simple to install but most auto ones are basicly the what your hooking up its just automatic.
if you use 100amp wire use 100 amp fuse 200-200

Cool, that's it in a nutshell. I want to be able to turn it on/off. And I'll match the fuse to the wire. Cheers megatexture.

Its a bit boat like. You could get one of these and a simple on off switch

But why not go automatic and never think or worry about it. This is what Ive got.. has override if your main goes flat.

I used fuses as shown as well

If you can wire in one of the manual switches, you can wire in a RedArc Isolator. Power from main, power from 2nd battery, and a ground. Thats it. Fully automatic.

We fit a lot of dual battery systems at my work, I think the VSR (voltage sensing relay's) work the best, + they are marine grade, so they are completely water proof, and will last a lot longer than the redarc ones... We have replaced many redarc's with these because the redarc fails... We have never had one of these fail...
