blog and map combined
does anyone know of a site where you can record a blog and hopefully photo/video on a map? that is, it would be nice to plot your travels and load comments or a blog/photo's etc at map/grid/ref points rather than chronological?
any ideas appreciated.
cheers,

I can start a website dedicated to that if there was enough interest....lol
Do you mean a dedicated site for 4wders to do a full trip report with photos, plotting on maps, reports on fuel usage, problems and a comments section for other members to make.
Possible pre trip planning section with itinerary, etc and advise.

i Dont thinks so AB, I think he wants to put something together for his big trip mate and use a Map format rather than a Word spreadsheet format or alike.
Like your idea though AB, you'd be a Busy Busy Bee though mate but it has potential. Would something like exploreoz be doing something along those lines?

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

your both right. i would be using it for a trip with the family, but there's nothing to stop a site like that being used by anyone: 4wd, international travel, trekkers, backpackers etc.
the real issue is, from what i can see, you either have to use a blog that is chronological AND map that can plot your path, but there is nothing where you could for example, as a viewer, click on bittangabee south of eden and get a blog/photo/video/trip rpt etc by people who had been there and were either sharing publicly or privately. its a service i think people would pay for. is that a bit clearer.
i had a look at the exploreoz tool MudRunnerTD but it's more a route tool than one to be used for blogging etc.

Personally I'm simply using google maps to do my planing. It keeps all the bits in one place, in relation to each other.
Add links to videos, blogs, whatever to the description of the individual items and you're good to go.
You can also see your google maps in google earth with the added benefit that the number of items shown at any time isn't limited (or as limited).

have a look at 4x4 earth http://www.4x4earth.com.au/ its not very widely used as its fairly new but is growing in its track database as it relies on users to report/rate and add tracks.
