tossing up the idea of looking at a 223 later on
I'd not bother with a .223 you'd be better to get a 22/250 if that's the size you're after shoots harder flatter and slightly larger projectile and more forgiving for a clean kill compared to a .223.
I have a Remington sps stainless 22/250 with a redfield 3-9 40mm scope currently hand loading barns 55 gr projectiles at about 3200 fps according to the powder chart and load size http://www.qldgunexchange.com/QGEWeb...roductId=89276
Once disturbed
Don't under estimate the 223. Yes the 22-250 has bit more punch so does the 220 Swift, but like everything there are trade off's. What do you plan to hunt and at what range's and be honest to yourself. I put it to you this way they use 223's in F Class shooting up against 308's and that can be out to 1000y, BUT they arn't your standard of the shelf rifle but just shows you what can be done. Yes I have a very modified 22-250 with a NF 5.5-22x56 scope and love it but it's also on it's 3rd barrel due to throat errosion ( this is not due to lack of cleaning ). Another round to consider and again depending on what vermin and range is the good ol 222 and its still popular. There are others eg 22PPC, 22 Waldog these are used in BR class and at the other end is the 22 Chetah barrel burner.
But first thing to think of is what vermin and what realistic range you think you'll go out to and work from there.
I'm excited I've got my bow

I haven't shot a bow for 10 years its a bit windy today and I was watching the sights waver all over the place but I'm happy with that so far. Got heaps of practicing to do before I go chasing bunnies and foxes on my mates property, then hopefully pigs one day
