Number Plates
Can you buy number plates and not have them registered on a car straight away? Bit of a strange question but looking at buying some plates off Ebay but want to put them on a car later on down the track so can you just buy plates and put them under your name only to wack on a car later on?

You would be better off asking at a Licensing Centre. Ring them and ask to speak to a senior staff member.

Private Plates are made once, there fore belong to the owner of the plates. I believe you need to transfer ownership of Private plates when selling/purchasing. Once thats done you need to fill in application to attach private plates and remove standard rego plates.
It may be stating the obvious , but you can only display Plates belonging the state you're in. (eg I can't buy vic private plates for hawthorn hawks and display them on my vehicle in Qld)
