I have a very similar idea in mind for mine but instead of the rope I'll be putting in a small strutt either side. It'll lock into place better and add further support to the table!

I'll post some pics up when I get around to making it haha

There's a collection of pictures on rear door tables. Click once to make them bigger, click again to take you to the original webpage/forum.

ATM there is also one on ebay ready made. Some other mob on the net also make a generic one.

My personal experience is that something like wood is easiest to work with. It is also thick enough that you can fix things to the edge, for say, support.

I chose stainless steel which was too difficult to work with at home. The local tip shop sold it to me for under $10. To start with I got all the pictures I could muster of rear door tables, and found ideas I wanted to use. One of them was for it to be as large as possible. The part where I feel I fell down was not being able to turn down the edges at the front and the sides. Because I couldn't do this, all my good ideas for suspending the table and fixing it when it was up, were no good. Had some nifty stainless clips too.

    Pics soon.

Hi. I was at the Melbourne 4x4 show last week and was looking at a door table made by Fourby Fitouts. It look very good, nice solid construction. The factory door trim is replaced with a marine carpet covered board, not sure what is made of. It also came with new matching trim for the small door. The price was about $280, bit much may be??.

    Timmo,

One of the best things to use for screwing a table to the rear door, are nutserts.

You can buy a kit with the nutserts and a tool. Basically drill a hole, insert nutsert with the tool, and squeeze the handles. This causes the metal nutsert to collapse against itself and the inner skin of the door, creating a permanent nut for you to screw a bolt into.
