Need to rev when starting on LPG
Hi everyone,
I recently picked up an '89 GQ on Dual Fuel. I've got it on LPG most of the time to save on $$ but I find when I first start it each day I need to rev the engine (or pull out the idle adjust near the steering wheel) or it just sputters out. It doesn't do this on Petrol, just LPG. Is this normal? This is my first time on LPG. Once it starts up it runs beautifully and if I start it again once it's warm it starts first go.
I'm hoping it's just a quirk to do with running on LPG...
Cheers,
- Ben

hey mate
i strongly suggest starting cold on fuel, and when warmed up, swap to gas.
blowing air boxes to pieces is not fun

Do all the usual things full service.
Plugs, leads filters etc.
Carby kit won't go astray given the age and k's,
and may just be the exact problem
Fit pertronic I or II.
keep points for emergency.
Pertronic is a must have for improving engine.
LPG likes a couple of degree more advanced timing.
not to advanced as petrol will suffer and lose of top end etc.
Lpg also likes a smaller plug gap.
Is the auto choke system ok?.
any broken linkages ?.
all vac line ok?.
Take it to lpg specialist for a service/ tune up also.
All these things will improve a Sound engine no end, including economy on either fuel.
This is in a nut shell so to speak you may want to research for tuning at home further.
cheers

I think it's a tuning issue. Neighbour's a mechanic so I'll have him take a look and show me what he's doing... Thanks for the advice.
