Remote locking system
Hello All,
I have just bought a GQ, 10/1996, 4.2l, EFI and I have some basic Questions that I need a bit of help with.
- The central locking system can be activated from either the driver's door pull lock, the central lock on the RH arm rest or the driver's door key. But pressing the remote lock button on the key ring does not cause the door locks to operate (the key ring button illuminates). Does this mean that (a) the vehicle does not have a remote lock facility or (b) the vehicle has a remote remote lock facility but it is not working? If the answer is (b), where is the defective remote lock device located and where is the fuse for it?
Any help will be appreciated.

The factory central locking in mine was activated from the drivers door via the key.
Basically the drivers door is just a switch and doesn't have an actuator.
so when i installed a remote alarm with central locking i had to fit an actuator into the drivers door only.

From what you write your central lock system seems to be ok on the car at least.
Is the remote system factory or aftermarket.
The remote itself may have a brand name on it.
A near flat battery is a problem, Light still flashes,
But is out of range due to weak signal from remote.
Simple test get real close to car and try remote.
Replace battery and try again.
You should find the battery is a watch type battery.
Available from chemists etc.
personally, Jaycar electronics, best prices/& range for this type of thing.
you need to open remote on get a part number off battery
something like CR2026, or LR44 is what you are looking for.
May be the first step to rule out, weak remote.
Cheers

Thanks guys - I'll try the "replace the key ring battery trick" first.

u could buy a mongoose M80g alarm system it has its own central locking and the bonus is you have a great alarm also plus you can use the factory wiring.

X 2. This is exactly what I did.

I have factory central locking, but I have had to disconnect the 2 actuators in the rear doors as they cause the doors to become unlockable as they are fubah, are there any aftermarket ones available that work ( or are not too hard to wire into) with the original plugs and location ?

The rear doors have issues even without central locking it may be a mechanical fault i had one here that wouldn't unlock and i had to bend an arm to make it work again.
So it might be worth checking the central locking actuators to see if they are working.

in my case they are not working the rear doors lock fine with no issues at all, might have to hit up the wreckers and see if i can get a couple

I found that in my rear doors the plastic fitting where the arm goes into the actuator had broken. Tried fixing by pulling the actuator apart but in the end brought an aftermarket central lock kit and used actuator from it. Aftermarket actuator was easy to fit.
