    Oil gauge changes????

    Hi everyone

I had to take hubby to work this morning and I noticed that the oil gauge on the dash was sitting around 4 but when I stopped at a set of lights it dropped to 0 but once I took off again it starts to rise again. Is this normal and if not what is recommended we do??

I'm assuming your talking about the GQ dash?

Yep, the oil pressure is not the most reliable gauge and mine drops to 0 all the time and comes back up like you described.

If your concerned about it then you will have to put an aftermarket one on.

Might be worth getting it checked out. I had that happen to me twice (neither vehicles were Patrols though). Once was on my vehicle. turned out nothign was wrong except the sensor for the gauge. The other time was when I was driving a friends car. He assured me the problem was with the gauge and not too worry...wrong! - turns out the oil pump was truly showing signs of distress and finally went kaput and the engine seized while I was driving.

Even though in the same sender, the oil warning light is independent of the gauge, so if it starts glowing there could be bigger issues otherwise its highly likely just the gauge.

I found every time i changed the oil on a patrol the gauge would play up for a while on several different gq's.
I would have the red light on but good pressure or it would be all over the place.
Their is a problem with the hole into the sensor it is tiny and blocks up i took the sensor off sprayed degreaser into the hole a few times and let it drain back out.
Then drilled it out i should have kept a note of the drill size and depth i used as my gauge has been fine ever since even after oil changes.
