    Angry Major Injector Pump Problems

Hello all I have a 3 ltr Turbo Diesel 02 Nissan patrol Wagon.
I have had a few annoying minor problems with the car over the last 12 months but 2 weeks ago it just stopped I had to be towed to the mechanics who told me I needed to tow it to a Nissan dealer as the injector pump had to be replaced and they were the only ones who could refit the new pump. I was shocked to find out this could start at $5000. if nothing else was wrong with the motor. i have since found out that this is a common problem. Shouldnt the car have been recalled?
Has anyone and information where to get this work done outside Nissan and has anyone had this done? and could recommend a mechanic who could do the work.?
Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as is it just now sitting in my garage
    unusable.
    Cliff

That price sounds somewhat wrong to me?? You could buy a fully rebuilt TD42 for that money ...

Have you sought s second opinion from a diesel specialist??

Hang tight mate as no doubt others will be along who have knowledge around the diesel space.

    Cookpa,

I have a ZD30 and have done the injector pump before. It was about 4-5 years ago, due to water. I've seen other people on the forum here theirs done, recently, for $3600. That's cheap from my experience. Good luck with it all. I know your frustration. I've just had to fix my vehicle again.

I can't for the life of me understand how an injector pump can cost $5000 to re build, there wouldn't be 2 grands worth of parts in one'
I think it's all about smoke and mirrors, injection rooms and all the palava.
I have seen an sd33 injector pump re built in the outback, using a tree stump for a bench.
    Dust free injector rooms pffft.
    Cheers the ferret.

shop around mate, Ferret is right 5k to rebuild a pissy little injector pump is total bull, though I kind of agree with the dust free bit though.
I agree too with the bosch suggestion, try them 1st then work your way around other diesel specialists. When I 1st bought a diesel a while back it was all ooooo ooooo injector pump ooooo white fella magic, but shit, it's just valves and springs and racks and rods and things that spin and do their bit to deliver the fuel for the suck- squeeze- bang- blow, don't be fooled by the pricks who enjoy making plenty of coin out of our lack of diesel know how. Just for shits and giggles maybe get the manual and study the parts contained in the pump and where the problems lie, so when you are shopping around you aren't flying blind into a big assed repair bill. Maybe go down the wreckers a take one the same as yours off a wreck and take it into a diesel specialist and ask how much to rebuild it.

It would only take half a day to remove and replace one, I am no mechanic, but I did mine. The timing is very important and the manual could have a better description of it all as it tells you how to mark and replace your pump, but not how to fit an unmarked pump.

Shop around, it should be around half that price.

No big drama in timing an un marked injector pump.
Bolt it on loose and spill time it, problem solved.
    Cheers the ferret.

Spill time it? Is that when you loosen the injector lines and watch for the fuel delivery as it rotates? Is that possible with an electronic ZD30 pump?
