I fitted 2 Autron guages a couple of weeks ago. Wired it through the Factory dimmer switch, but it was still much too bright at night. I then fitted a 1 k ohm linear potentiometer from Jaycar. Now I have a lot of control over the brightness, and it is great during both day and night. Hope this helps.

It's electronic so probably acts more as a constant voltage source then a resistor. Maybe a resistor in series to the gauge lights will help?
