Thanks 3Dog. I heard the same about the air bags and avoided that model (Grande).
I realise the the limitations of the IFS. If I was to left it, 2" max (Max legal in QLD anyway).

Sounds like you have a Diesel.
This is a Petrol so lets keep the comparisons apples with apples. A Patrol was too big a daily for the wife. It's not just an offroad vehicle.
From the reading online, hwy driving can be as low as 11, city and bush, as high as 17-18. Still better than a 4.5/4.8 Patrol though under the same conditions and this is what we looked at. It's...
We figured it was a good combination between a family car and a 4WD. If we just wanted a 4WD only, the Patrol would win hands down. The large petrol tanks were a huge + too.
I bought a Toyota :)
After being a Patrol lover since I was about 10 and dads first G60 (then MQ, now GU) and I have purchased my first 4WD.... A Toyota Prado. Please be gentle.
Got it for a...
Hi all,
I have an issue with a '99 GU central locking. It works with the key fine and tested the battery's in the remote as 6V (2*3V batteries). The small LED lights up on the remote and if I hold...
Ha, for $266 (an alignment costs $50-$60 anyway) I think it's a no brainer. Get them to do it. Last thing you want is it failing when offroad.
I'd get them to do the snorkel and lift. If you can do the rest, then why not. Get a feeling of accomplishment when you do it yourself.
Sorry to hear about the crash. It seems the bullbar did a decent job though considering the speed and impact you must of had. Lucky to be here and share more days with your kids.
Bring on the next...
1) Lift for sure at number 1
2) Dual Battery
3) Air lockers (front and rear if $ allow, otherwise just 1 end)
4) Recovery gear set
5) Winch bar with winch if balance allows (or maybe chuck in...
Stumbled across this whilst browsing for 4WD's on CarSales.

Oops, I saw 2012 GU 8's so figured it was the latest.
GU 8 was the last of the GU Series. 3.0Ltr 4cyl Diesel only.
4.8Ltr Petrol were earlier GU's. The current Y62 (yuck, horrible looking thing), are petrol only now and V8.
I'm thinking of joining (they have a meeting tonight actually) and just after some feedback on the club, types of trips they go on, track difficulty (I'm just learning) and if there are many families.
We all love the 4.8 for its power and they are both thirsty engines. Having driven dad's 4.5 a bit over the past few weeks is the 4.8 any thirstier? According to Nissan the 4.8 is rated at...
I'm doing a search on carsales and there seems to be 2 different models of GU III. What is the difference, if any or is it simply the model year? There's not much difference in price until you hit GU...
I'm just wondering were the NADS issues ever fixed on the 3.0ltrs? I hear about it a lot with the GU-GU III's but not so much after that. Was it fixed for the later models and if so what year?
Decided to go for a drive today.
* Forest just off Smith St is private property owned by Hanson Concrete.
* Little Nerang Dam Rd was closed with a SEQ Water gate. The gate says closed 6pm to 6am...
Hi all,
Just wondering where on the Gold Coast we can still go 4wd'ing (legally)? Ormeau seems to be all closed now from what I've been reading. Did Duck Creek Rd yesterday. Closest beach without...
I took my two boys along Duck Creek Rd @ Lamington National park yesterday for some beginner bush 4wding and just to get outside and amongst it. I took dads '99 GU out for the first time and wondered...
We're thinking of going to Bribie Island in the next few weeks for a day trip. Any particular areas, tracks etc are good, bad, should avoid?
No idea,
Don't drive in the water cause you'll get stuck?
Bingo. Well done Graeme.
QLD. The pic is taken looking east.
Nope. 2 separate bits of land. There's a hint.
