I fitted the extension bracket, it made no difference to my 2008 gu, it was already at full openess :)

copy that, I'll have to suss it out when I'm home in a few days!

pretty sure mine has already had the extension bracket because it opens as far as it does in pictures I've seen with the bracket fitted
