so once i get a new filter, anything special i need to know or any tricks?

i have a similar problem.. my door wont lock so i have to reach in from the passenger side and flick the inside locking switch for the door to lock, it wont lock with the key or the remote,, anyone...

So i want to replace my fuel filter as it is way over due to be replaced and i think it might be the cause of my starting issues..
but at over $150 for a filter is rather out of my reach ATM (...
