Top idea mate let us know how it goes
Shopping bag what a great idea :)
yeah had the same issue I put a sheet over the steering arm and bucket underneath and turned it up as quickly as I could still a bit of oil spilt but the sheet saved a lot of mess
carry a hand winch to hook on either front or rear to pull out with a ground anchor.
I put 33's on my shorty and had to put a 2" lift kit in as it rubs on the guards when you turn, I also had to put rubber flares on as they stuck out to far which may fail the road worthy
I had the same issue with my GQ 4.2, I put a new radiator in new hoses but found it still sat around that temperature.
I was towing a camper trailer around OZ at the time, found I just had to sit...
I would ask for a service history make sure its had its oils changed every 5000kms and injectors every 100000kms, compression test is a great idea as it will let you know where your at with 420000kms...
I travelled around oz in my GQ shorty with a roof rack and toolbox up top, was fine on the black top as when you are travelling you are never in a real hurry. just left it at camp when exploring.
Gee mate that's a good price fitted.
Hey Grimace I am about to do my 4.2 turbo diesel with a 3" scotts rods exhaust, how did you go getting to the bolts on the turbo? cheers mate
That shower on the roof is a great idea, is it just black poly pipe?
That's a great buy for a 4.2 mate, doesn't seem like there is too much to do. My mate also used to work for Telstra an he said the same, doesn't recall using the winch at all.
Hey GrumpyOldFart that country side looks awesome, I bet the rock is hard on the tyres. What sort of rubber will you run on it?

My first patrol was a 1976 GQ shorty which I did up to drive as a young bloke to explore the Otway's of Vic, I then upgraded to a 1991 maverick shorty 4.2 diesel which my wife and I travelled around...
