Welcome Dean, hope it will be helpful.
brake cleaner can be extremely useful if starting is is the problem. I always bring a small can, and a big spanner to open the turbo.
Thanks for to photos, look pretty cool.
I assume you have checked battery power?
What does "does not start mean" does the start motor start?
check the glow relay, next tot the battery. You can listen or feel if it clicks when turning switch.
The voltage to the glow system is cut when over a certain amount of revs (i think 2400), keeping it under this limit while kicking it to live might help a bit as well.
Letting the motor run while using the winch might be a good idea, but not always possible (e.g. unexpected deep mud). I would therefore not connect the winch to the same battery, to ensure it is...
Thanks, I'd say this also holds for petrol for a large part.
Using a relay in this situation might also help in detecting problems when they occur. I'd always use one.
You did check if none of the left hand blinkers failed? Quick blinking would normally indicate a bulb lost in the chain.
Sounds like you lost a screw somewhere. Have you opened the dash to check? Or do you hear loose items in the dash?
Altough, the glow system for a diesel would be wired such to stop at more then 2400 revs (or so). You could try to listen to the relay when hitting more then 2400 revs?
600 would be quite recognizable, but I do not see exactly why you should worry over the meter if the sound is fine?
be quite aware of the high current loads though, as heavy switch and thick cable are essential I think.
It might help as well by ensuring a slow cooldown of the battery after use in cold weather.
If the carbon on the electrical motor gets worn, the springs might not have enough length to make a good connection. If hitting it with a hammer (and maybe a beam) helps, this is probably the case....
Would you not just start with contact cleaner on the original earth?
Thus the diode heated up due to lack of ground?
But with the testing they burned the control unit as well. For some reason they do not have the Spanish versions of the workshop manuals.
Indeed it turned out to be a relay problem. Had to import one.
Welcome, hope we can help
Thanks.
I checked (and replaced) the oil for 'mayonaise'. Altough dark black, the oil itself looked fine, therefore I tough all gaskets and cylinderhead are intact. Would this be a correct...
I drove around with a banana in the radiator, worked for about 1000 km before the replacement radiator arrived. The older the banana, the better.
I spilled a bit of the banana on the air intake...
Hi all,
My 1992 Patrol GR 2.8 DT HTP is beginning to have starting difficulties, white smoke and an irregular run for the first two minutes or so.
It is an oldie, with approx 450.000 km, but is...
