Hi,
any guesses on how much mileage I will get?
planning on doing a run through the Tanami again, and testing out the 'New' DA Maverick (rebadged GQ).
She will be carrying a bit of weight and...
last update - It was the master cylinder. Draining the old fluid allowed the cups to collapse - they were a bit over it, and this was the last straw. hence the advice never to empty the system. I can...
did the radius arm rubbers myself with cheap nolathane bushes from cheapasup. they don't last as long, but were easy enough to get into once I had done them and knew what to do
depending on what the mud is made of, you may also have abrasive embedded into the clutch plate. I know from experience the red lateritic mud from the tanami desert is sudden death on brake discs
Carry a bit of 'quick metal' in the toolbox. it is a two part, Plasticine like epoxy, and sets hard enough to file and drill etc. I once broke a chain on my XL250, and smacked a hole in my crank...
Hmm. no change.
even worse; if I hit the brakes hard, I can feel them sag for a bit - methinks it could be the master cylinder. anyone got any better ideas?
Ok, just pumped an entire reservoir of fluid through to the rear passenger side bleed valve.
as for all the other ploblems, the brakes were rock solid until I replaced the rear cylinders and...
:jawdrop::1087::blowup:
oh we're happy little vegimites...........
will let you know how I go.
The pedal goes half way under light pressure, then goes hard and starts to apply the brakes. once it is on hard, it goes no further
thanks
will check the valve - but I think it only has the one on the top.
I have the visibleed tube - and this is what I used to begin with.
Am starting to think I might put this back on to...
I was careful not to change the adjuster on the rears - just made sure they were free to turn.
for bleeding, I used a non return valve on the bleed tube, but when I struck trouble I went back to the...
Hi all. I've run out of ideas, and am now into the 'gaining experience' zone, except I don't know what experience to gain. I hope someone can help.
1. I replaced the brake cylinders on the rear...
the replacement bolt in unit turned out to be for drum brakes. The seal kit was $24 per side
Bushes are commonly rubber or other similar material. they allow a bolt or shaft to twist or flex in a hole, but not to rattle. this is kinda good in suspension connections. eg your shock absorbers...
I bet you find you don't get the smell when you don't recirculate the air. And yeah, wet air filters in the system do get stinkey - run it with outside air coming in fairly regularly to give it a dry...
OK, job is done. PU bushes went in easily by hand. The axle moved 5mm out of alignment on one side, and I had to winch this forward by looping a rope around axle and bull bar and twisting it.
...
looking up in the manual - it says to lube the assembly with brake fluid. kinda makes sense too.
Thought someone might find this useful.
The dash clock in my GQ was totally dead. The plug in the back had the correct voltages on them, so the next most common suspect was 'dry joints' on the...
hmm - lesson learnt. I am not in a position to bin these ones unfortunately - but I will certainly remember the lesson and advice when they go on me.
Am getting ready to crawl underneath tomorrow...
Haven't seen it yet, but I was told that you use a 10mm spanner to undo the brake line, and then 2 more 10mm nuts, and the whole piston unit comes out. Was told this by the mechanic who told me to...
no worries,
will be doing them in the next two weeks with a bit of luck. this week is the control arm bushes
Supacheap/repco/autobarn have a bolt in replacement unit for $50. (for a GQ)
I have located a bloke in cairns selling them for $22 each. at this price, it is not worth the $20 for the rebuild kit.
I like words like "cut/burn/bust".
Thanks for the tip
OK, been told to do the lot. Have bought polyurethane bushes, and as these have a moving centre bush, I don't expect the fit to be as tight to get the new ones back in. They are also a split unit,...
