Voltage drop is dependant on 2 things. The resistance of the circuit and the current you are drawing. If the 10 amp startup has a 1 volt drop, then the 1 amp load will only have 0.1 volt drop

BTW where is the starter motor located. It was under the pump on my cabstar, and the leaking fuel eventually killed the brushes and commmutator six months later.

Try this on cold mornings,
turn ignition on wait for glow plug light to go out then turn off, repeat 3 times then start without touching throttle.
