I found a small leak in one of the radiator tanks today, not a biggie, just a small drip. It looks like I'll be taking the radiator in for a repair job so I'll swap out the thermostat and everything...
It just got hot, not all the way to the top of the gauge but close...
It was overheating as I came off the beach and when I was idling when inflating my tyres back up.
As soon as we started driving...
I was debating whether to buy TREDS or MaxTrax all week.
Ended up buying a pair of maxtrax yesterday.
Went out to the beach hoping to get bogged today... didn't.
I did try them out on a bogged...
Hi everyone,
So I managed to get away up Teewah beach in QLD this weekend to try out my '89 GQ in the soft stuff.
All in all it performed great, had the tire pressure down low and floated on top of...
The 5m LED strip arrived the other day, hooked it up to the power pack and was blown away! Just need to hook up a dimmer now... might be a bit too bright otherwise. Not sure how many amps are being...
I think it's a tuning issue. Neighbour's a mechanic so I'll have him take a look and show me what he's doing... Thanks for the advice.
Hi everyone,
I recently picked up an '89 GQ on Dual Fuel. I've got it on LPG most of the time to save on $$ but I find when I first start it each day I need to rev the engine (or pull out the...

Really handy, will definitely give it a read. Thanks.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll get into the camping shop this week and have a play around. I haven't rigged up dual batteries yet but planning on it down the track. I have a 12V 'heavy...
Great idea with the LED strips. I'll look in to that. Could run them straight along the spreader bar! Thanks.
I've been looking at the Colemen Quad and also the Duo online. I'll give them a try...
All done, came up clean thankfully.
Might be worth giving your insurance company a ring and asking them about it... I've been going through the same debate in my head while shopping around for a GQ and decided on the 2" just to be...
Haha, too true.
Ouch, hope you didn't get stickered...
Good to hear about the 33's though, means I don't have to worry about downgrading when I wear these ones out.
Hi all,
I'm heading out camping next weekend and am in the market for a new lantern. We're currently using Primus Gas ones that are great but thinking about switching over to a battery powered...
Good to know. Rang RACQ yesterday and they said insuring a Patrol with 2" lift and 33's should be fine. Good news. Put the deposit down yesterday, Whoop Whoop! Hopefully pick it up next week!
Nice pics, can't wait to get back up that way. Hopefully head up in a few weeks.
Can I ask where you picked up your roof rack? I'm looking for a full-length (~2.2m long) roof rack. Been looking at some on e-bay, ~$600 delivered but unsure of the quality...
Looking good. What happened to the head?
thanks everyone, really glad I joined. Already been a big help!
Oops, had it wrong. It's only a 2" lift so everything should be legal. I take it 33" tyres are legal? I think the rule is 2" over largest optional tyre but I'm not sure what that is on a GQ... ...
Thanks,
That's really helpful.
I'm pretty much decided on the one with 3" lift and 33" tyres (saw the other one today and didn't look as well maintained). He's said he will go get the...
The Kenilworth Homestead in Kenilworth is fantastic. We've been taking our two dogs there with us for a couple of years now. They can play around in the Mary River. It does get a bit crowded in...
