Yeh - so the wheels on the hubs we swapped to a 19mm hex head nut into the hub studs - plenty of clearance.
But as you said, the the ones into the spare carrier are still a 21 hex head. I ended...

well that'd make sense :-) - the guys who did the install obviously didn't have an option. Will check an auto parts store today
sorry mate - the wheels around the car have studs off the hub with a nut to secure the wheel. The spare carrier has a stud into the carrier
