Had a quick look through the GU and GQ service manuals I have here, and whilst I am in no way an electrical guru I have noticed that the ZD30 alternator appears to have two wires go to the battery...

Seen a few guys mount on on top of the center of the dash, you could get one looking pretty good by cutting the bottom of a spare dash center and sticking it on top of the current dashboard
