Got a GQ, driving today all of a sudden it started to rev around 3500 rpm it is a 4.2 carby cannot get it to stop soon as i start it, it starts to rev it head of, any idea

I have just done the compression test on the motor and it was all around 750 kpa the motor was cold. do the motor have to be warm to get a true reading.
