Thanks all, unfortunately I don't have the funds for another patrol even if I sold mine now. I'm hoping for a miracle that a cheap engine will turn up but I doubt it. fingers crossed!

Well, I just thought I'd update the thread as I've been a bit slack lately. I had my mechanic go over the car and unfortunately its a cracked head, the head was cracked the entire time I owned it, so...
Yeah mate sure am.
Hi guys, I'm chasing a 2nd hand (or new) T28 turbo as I'm currently rebuilding the engine and the turbo I have is toast! any nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated
Hey all, just recently joined and I live at the Gold Coast

Thanks mate, I'll keep updating this thread as I carry on with a rebuild.
When I took the air intake pipe off I didn't have to loosen the hose clamp on the turbo housing, the pipe came...
Hopefully! Ill have to tear the engine down a little bit and see how badly damaged it is, If its not too bad I'll do most of the work myself and all the hard stuff to the professionals!
Well I took the intake pipe off from the turbo and look what I found....67850 . Looks like its a new turbo, rings and pistons at the very minimum!
Plenty of research has been undertaken, I'm just trying to cover all bases first as I'm a bit pedantic with that stuff. The trol is off the road atm as I am doing a coolant flush and replacing...
Hi guys! I was just wondering if anyone out there knows of a good engine rebuilding shop in SE QLD that isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg. I have a pretty good feeling that my engine is dusted...
Yeah this is true, the quotes I've been getting for a td42 conversion are around $10k, whereas a rd28 engine is around $6600. I was just seeing what options there were. Would love a td42 but way out...
Hi all, I have a 97 GQ 2.8 with a cooked motor, was wondering if its possible to throw ZD30 in there? And if so, how much of a pain in the a$$ will it be? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I'll take the intake to the turbo off on the weekend and have a look. If the vanes of the turbo feel like sandpaper I'll doubt I'll need to get a compression test. Unfortunately I'll more than likely...
I was scared that this was going to be the case. It isn't exactly hard to start, turns over first go but its a little bit spluttery in the morning if its very cold, otherwise its not too bad. But...
Hi Guys, my 2.8 GQ patrol has been blowing plenty of blue/white smoke recently, Its not hard to start, I have a to wind up the choke for about 20 secs on cold mornings and then its fine. But blowing...
I haven't replaced the air duct yet or installed a catch can, hopefully new air duct will be on this weekend so that should stop the leaking from in front of the turbo. I've just got the breather...
Yeah I've seen a few cheap knock offs on eBay. But I'd rather spend the extra $$$ and make sure that the engine is safe over getting a cheap one and risk potential damage.
Yeah I was thinking that as well...there was definitely less oil underneath the car when I got home, so I'll just keep an eye in every day. Ill be installing a provent catch can in the near future...
No worries has been unblocked. I will update the thread once Ive inspected the hoses after the drive home from work.
Sit Rep! I have detached the hose from the intake and lengthened and blocked it off with a tap. Also cleaned the turbo and intake pipe so hopefully on the way home everything wont be covered in oil....
Couldn't see a catch can at all. the only pipe with rubber tubing on it goes onto what looks like a diaphragm on top of the rocker cover then a pipe runs into the air intake.
This will more than likely be a stupid question but where abouts is that in relation to the turbo?
I recently bought a 97 gq patrol wagon with TJM XGS Springs and Shocks, the previous owner didn't know squat about what sizes the springs were so luckily the part number tags were still on the...
I've recently bought a 97 2.8 GQ Patrol and found its leaking oil from what seems to be the turbo air intake pipe. The photo I've attached shows that the previous owner has just been lazy stuck some...
