I always find it better to soak the paper for an hour or so in cold water, then use a sponge and bucket. you dont want it to clog.
maybe reversing switch on the gearbox itself, it switches ground on or off, so maybe its grounding somewhere else too.
as long as its serviced reg, and had good history, shouljd see well past the 600k
