Could be wrong but I think it’s something to do with vibration. Like a dampener. @Hodge your time to shine mate

Helical armour rod? Obviously I'm no expert, just googling around.

Maxheads on the money. They are spiral dampers, helical dampers, vibration dampers or pig tails as we call it. Pretty much does what it says. Reduces the vibration on non-insulated cables. Its to lessen damage and hardware rattling and loosening off at each end of the span, pretty much.

Do you need some PeeBee ? :)
We used to use dog bone dampers ages ago. You'll see these on the transmission lines mainly.

CLose one Plassy. Armor rods are wrapped around the cable where it is attached to insulators on large or heavy spans pretty much to protect the cable.
They're a lot of fun to fit when working live line , e.g. at 22,000v as you pretty much gotta do it strand by strand and sometimes it whacks you in the guts or neck and you sure know about it.
Thanks Guys, good info. I have looked at these things for 'years' without knowing what they were for. i now have power to our block in Wiseleigh and they are fitted to the line, just curious.
