Yep, that was the first thing I tried. Made it a little better but still way short of what I reckon it should be - it still binds when left for a while. I pulled it apart and thoroughly cleaned it and even polished the appropriate parts before using the silicon.
Hesitant to use anything wet or greasy as it only attracts grit and dust, although I have seen someone use WD40 which did solve their immediate problem.
Seems like this in not an uncommon issue.
I do have some powdered graphite so might give that a go.
Damn thing has had little use but is out of warranty. Might have to just pension it off and replace it. At around $20 it's not worth getting too upset over.
