Yep, I've pounded over a squillion corrugations and the RAM mount holds firm, well worth the extra $s.

Here you go.
I've screwed one of the balls onto the dash. Built a backing plate out of 1.2mm gal sheet I think it is. The arm goes from the ball on the dash to a ball attached to the backing plate. The Ram mount screws to the backing plate and into the pen holder part of the dash as you can see.
It is VERY rigid, corrugations.vibrations barely bother it.

Awsome, thanks fellas. They have a bunch of options so I'll be able to find something to suit. Never even looked at the Ram stuff before.
Yep agreed RAM are the way to go. I just use a windscreen suction style with the x-grip for my iPhone. Works great. Nice and solid Attachment 78140
Guys, looking for a suitable, robust RAM mount or Ram style mount for an IPAD mini into a GQ - @Winnie, @MudRunnerTD, @Rossco, @ AB, what have you got, pics pls. As you would be aware I am realestate poor, but the Hema is a bit too small now for my aging eyes.
I suggest not using a windscreen mount. I have for years but it does fall off occasionally and is a pain in the ass... I need to buy some new bits for mine cos I am just gonna screw it through the dash.

Hey Phil mine is a Dick Smith cheapie but made my own bracket from the swivel down. Originally had it screwed into the dash with self tappers but they came loose after pounding through outback corrugations, have got it bolted through the dash now fiddly job but solid as. Yeah wouldn't recommend suction cap unless you enjoy it randomly falling off. .
