Pretty much just going , not running to a schedule as such , just cruise along and stop when we want , the only bit I'll push a bit is brissy to charlaville ( I do that trip every 6 weeks ) 2 young kids and towing the van , keep the idea's coming though , always open to suggestions ,
Innamincka and Coongie Lakes
Although you could easily do Birdsville to Marree in a couple of days, I’d recommend spending at least 4 nights on the Birdville Track to ‘savour’ the country. Places to pull up for the night I reckon are good are : Claytons bore - star light/open air spa + a short walk to the wetlands, toilet. Mungerannie - Pub, wetlands, & old trucks. Lake Harry ruins, all sorts of stuff laying around to explore & an open air bore fed shower. Farina - a campground in a little ‘oasis’ hidden from the road, showers/toilets. Historic ruins being restored.
We base camped at Cullymurra waterhole, caught fresh yellow belly every day,[green prawn for bait]
From there a day trip to the dig tree, {worst road in Aust IMO] Low water at that time [Sept]
Then packed up did the old strezlecki track up to Haddons crn then a smooth run on the development road to
Birdsville. We went a few weeks after the races and all tracks roads etc were chopped to pieces. Going Sth
we took the inside track and all the clay topped dunes were savage on the 4x4, we kept our speed right
down. At Birdsville we stayed in the units behind the Pub, cheap as.
Gaddy, the Strzlecki is a dirt highway really and can be travelled quite easily. If you are starting from Birdsville, consider Walkers Crossing. It was unfortunately closed due to rainfall when we were there, but we were told it was the better (more interesting) route to Innamincka.
Cooper Creek was a great camping spot whether you stay at Innaminka or at the Dig Tree. The Innamincka pub was great for families with a big restaurant out the back too.
Marree was a fantastic pub with lots of character, as was Innamincka. Lyndhurst didn't do much for me, but the fuel was cheaper.
Great camping and 4wdriving around Arkaroola if you can stretch the trip a little, and the scenery was mind-blowing in the evenings.
Thanks gents keep coming , all info is apreciated
Packed and ready to roll in the morning ☺
Plan a stop and camp at Argibukina bridge south of Oodnadatta. Good luck and travel safe. If you find your traveling well(the roads should be a good nik) consider heading North to Dalhousie Springs, finke and Chambers Pillar is a great spot to camp. Wake up before sun rise for some amazing shots of the pillar.
Coward Springs is a great spot to spend a day or two too. Have fun.
