Are you using gasless wire in a mig or stick welding?

A lot of gasless needs the polarity to be reversed. So the electrode into the negative and the earth clamp into the positive. This will help to settle it down and make it run smoother for you. But it is always best to check the manufacturers instructions as the electrode polarity will be in them.
I never had much luck with gasless. Always sketchy. I bought a TIG and never looked back.
Sorry @MudRunnerTD I only just saw your post , yeah we took heaps of before , during & after pics , the wife is onto the insurance company about it . I’ll let you know how we get on .
Guy at work has the same welder and has no issues using it as a gasless. I'll try a new tip and see how it goes. Besides the last roll of wire I brought was a 15kg roll of gasless wire, if it's still giving me issues I'll change to gas when I need more wire..

Theres no issues with using it gasless agreed. but using with gas is easier and a much better weld.
