First I bought this stuff $78

and then put it together for a bit of a dry run. Looks good :D

Now where to mount it? I was keen for a stealth mounting solution, the last thing I wanted to do was cannibalise the dash, so I picked on the little cubby house storage pocket at the top of the dash with the flip up lid.

Time now to rip the dash apart. Comes apart pretty easy actually.

Now to mount the base to the back of the pocket. The RAM units are made out of high quality aluminium and feature a rubber coated ball which grips the arm very well. Luckily for me RAM decided to make the diameter of the base unit about half a millimetre smaller than the height of the back of the pocket, couldn't have designed it any better if you tried. Placed it in there and drilled some holes, then bolted it up with some 6x16 button head bolts and nyloc nuts.

Then reassembled the dash

Looks like it was meant to be there. Test fitted the arm and iPad holder

Perfect fit :D :D 8-)

Now to test it out, bring in the iPad

Perfect fit. The base of the iPad is about 10mm in front of the silver pen tray on the dash and the arm rests on the base of the pockect to help hold the weight. It doesn't block the use/view of the radio and absolutely has zero impact on your forward vision, perfect location. It's as solid as a rock and doesn't move at all. Very pleased with the end result. 8-) 8-)

If you want it permanent BA and secure I would do what the lads have done above using a ram mount.
I have a ram mount on the satphone and the perfect spot to mount it on a gq is just on the right hand side of the oh shit bar. The satphone holder and phone does not move at all.

Ram mount brand is the best bar none. Don't stuff around with any crap. I bought the mount which bolts to your seat base and has a stalk on it. A bit bricey but I was sick of buying cheap flimsy chinese shite!

I didn't buy from this mod but here it is.
I just bought a Ram mount brand mobile phone holder too. I broke three yet again flimsy plastic crap before I decided to get the real deal.
Come over one day Jonathan and have a look. Its quality gear.

yep, another one for ram mount, mine was screwed down onto the dash in the old clunker (using exiting holes)
-
Yeah bugger... out of my price range.. i still owe some nob cash for parts ....lol
Might make my own ??
-
Heres mine i made for my Ipad Aid, used a Ram mount and made my own bracket out of steel off the seat mount. Holds very well with almost no movement

Mine is mounted the same as rocket55 but I just used self tappers thru the glove box, I didn't bother pulling everything out and mine is still there after 18 mths
-
Well done Rocket55..
you beat me to it, i got plans on doing the same thing,,
that is a perfect place for it..
all you need now is a USB socket next to the ball so you dont have wires running every where... that was my plan to do..
just one question for you.. what was the length of the arm???
