TD42 fuel consumption
Looking at a few TD42 wagons for my first car and I'm just wondering what fuel economy around town?
From what I've gathered it can be anywhere from 12-18/100?
I'm also wondering if a turbo improves economy as there is another one with a turbo.
Obviously I don't expect it to be super economical but being still in school and working part time, I still need to be able to run the thing! :smiley_thumbs_up:

Yeah if they are well kept and maintained a stocker or even a very mild turbo setup should see you at around 11-13 per 100

Hay mate. Just done a few different trips to compare for you
First up the td42 with half a million on the clock, non turbo. Travelling around 100k/h
Towing a 1.2t camper trailer and a fully loaded lwb gq with camping gear, 2 adults and 2 children from mount gambier to handorf, threw the hills of Adelaide got us 16L/100k.
Then the next time just the loaded car with camping gear, 2 adults and 2 kids returned figures of 12.1L/100k..
So if well maintained the are very good, even when towing..

Those figures certainly make me more confident in going with the TD42 :D Thanks fellas

Yea mate. A turbo helps, but does add a little to those figures. They ain't quick, but reliable..

They don't add to much. Ben-e's td42 is running 200+hp at 20 odd psi and can still return figures around the 12-13/100 mark. They are quite a good engine.

just to through that in after all those years...
just drove from WA to NSW. 4700km with a detailed list of how many liters I put in.
driving the TD42 with gas, fully loaded with lots of campingstuff, a full roof rack, bedconstruction and so on, max 100km/h.
10.6L diesel per 100km + 2.0L gas per 100km
I'm pretty happy with that

TD42i with rear canopy, fair bit of weight & solar panels on roof - average around 16.3 litres per hundred (6.11 kms per litre). Usually drive at 80 to 100.
-
round town / suburbs i'm pulling 700-750 off 70L-80L or so
-
TD42t (non-IC) stock except 285's. At worst my ute uses 20-25 l/100 towing 2t large profile trailer on long-flat run in hot weather.
-
I've averaged 15.4 over the last 4000 kms with auto trans. Roof rack was on for most of that.

02 GUTD42T wagon ranging between 500<>650kms per 80L tank. The lesser is when towing horse float locally up hills and upper is 3.0T highway cruising. Great donks, have had my old 2000DX GUTD42T ute down as low as 380kms per 80L although was a silly young fella hauling 4.5T in 4th gear North to Mildura.
