buying first GQ Patrol
Good day,
My name is Jerome and I am about to buy my first GQ Patrol. Did some research and for al lot of reasons love de Patrol. I came acros this forum and read and learned a lot. Thanks!
I don't have a big budget so will look for an early to mid 90's model. The most important factor is reliablity. I will drive the car from Perth to Broome (some 3000k's). After that I will take the car for some 4WD in The Kimberley but nothing to extreme.
I prefer a diesel but they are harder to find. I am hoping you could answer the follwoing questions I have left:
- Is it okay to buy a Petrol with 330.000 k's on it providing it is well maintained and in good condition. Or is 330.000 a bit to many k's for a petrol motor like the Rb30?
- Do these engines have a average maximum of k's?

330,000 is getting up there for an RB30. In saying that they do last a long time. I think you may be better off looking for one with lower kms or chasing a diesel. Nothing worse than breaking down in the middle if no where when your on a big trip.

Loved my GQ but sold it at 250 just in case... 330 sounds like a lot but you gotta work within your budget

My 4.2s motor had 300k on it when I got it.
The 3 liters are a bit under powered, but are still a great truck.
The big advanatge is that you can pick up cheap rb30's from the wreckers (ex vl commordores and skylines)

Does it make a big difference if many parts like t-belt, radiator etc are recently replaced or is the core of the engine itself that shuts shop after +/_ 350.000kms?

It can be heaps of different things that can cause an engine to die. After 350000+ kms things like bearings, seals and piston rings become very worn which will result in engine failure.
