I travelled around oz in my GQ shorty with a roof rack and toolbox up top, was fine on the black top as when you are travelling you are never in a real hurry. just left it at camp when exploring.

Height should be fine for the blacktop, although you are better off keeping weight as low as possible.
Toolbox will also dent performance and fuel economy as it will be a real windbreak .....

Limit for any truck in Aussie is 4.2m before they need a permit but a 4x4 I don't know!? I reckon you are fine mate
Don't have one myself but from what I understand the turbo gives you more power but generates more heat and the 6.5 is prone to over heating. I would be going supercharged with this motor Bullit...
