Can you use a thread file to re-store the thread, they cost around $35 for memory
but a handy bit of kit. even a set of needle files may help in restoring the thread.

They also have a small nyon ‘restrictor’ to fit inside the tube - part no 10027 - see pic. Not sure if it would cause the issue you have if missing, but does apparently stop the needle from being too...
If it has a brass olive you place on the tubing before the nut ,
then you will need to nip it up so it squashes slightly
I would suggest that it should not be sucking any air. Could be wrong though.
