So not patrol related but still fun and I use the patrol to get to these places.
Just started getting into the whole hunting thing and was wondering how many of you out there are into it and if you have any trips pics and tips for people out there getting into the sport.

I'm back in brisbane now and heading out to stanthorpe for a few days chasing dogs, fox and possible deer.

I think Adrian is into it, I wouldn't mind a lash (have done pigging once many many moons ago). Can't do the next few weeks me thinks, but keep me in mind.

Big rig is right i am into the hunting thig etc have 2 rifles heavy hitter and a light wieght speaking of ranges i wil have to go to ripples this weekend or next to check zero of scope on one and rezero the other out 100 meters before i go south to the blue mountains as i have score myself a couple of nights spottlighting while i am on the farm stay woohoo might even get in a days deer stalking if i am lucky as well

if you all want to organise a hunting trip later in the year after i get back i will be very interested

macca86
23rd March 2012, 10:54 PM
Sorry lads just got back from stanthorpe turns out to be 2 x 6hr long nature walks rather than hunting this trip no deer moved off the property But was some freshish poo around but no rutting calls. Saw one pig but couldn't shoot it as the bugger was around the cattle and goat and roo's can't shoot them as jenni's mum is a wildlife person and raises injured roo's and releases them.
I'm back in brisbane for good now so can arrange a shoot on sunday this weekend or next weekend out at the farm or the range either range is fine

hekarewe
24th March 2012, 02:31 AM
where is the farm at macca???? and whats on it or is it a sunday of paper punching either way i would be interested would be good to see if the 308 has held zero or not before i go away at easter once i have voted this weekend i am pritty much free for the rest of it. will pm you with my phone number so you can contact me

macca86
24th March 2012, 02:42 AM
I'm thinking sunday the first paper punching at belmont or ripley pending on peoples interest or I can ask our friend next door to the springs 4x4 park to get on her property they have dogs dingo and pig running about with roos should anyone want dog meat or backstraps and tail to stew. need ot ask by tuesday to hunt on her land if she'll let us. I'd like to wait to late april for the rut to be in swing for stanthorpe I really want my first antlers. I'd imagine sunday at ripley for paper punching and some 4x4ing to mix it up a bit the range gets expensive I haven't started reloading yet. If anyones interested in either msg or post here and see what I can do?

macca86
24th March 2012, 02:55 AM
Depending on numbers I'll organise a shoot on the farm or the range for sunday the 1st of april I'll have details up sunday night with prices/ ideas for those that are interested. I have access to 2 rifles so everyone can have a go or what ever and after have a last in the patrols either at ripley(if at the range) or the springs if at the farm or I'll ask and you can make your own fun at the back of the farm 650 acres next door to the springs 4x4 park

macca86
25th March 2012, 09:31 PM
Hi lads I have a birthday party to go too on sat night so can't hi the farm for a shoot but wouldn't mind hitting the range on sunday and maybe do some wheeling
The range options are
S.S.A.A. Brisbane Inc 292 Mt Petrie Rd, Belmont, Qld 4153
or
"Stewartdale" Property, 1494 Ripley Road, South Ripley.

If you're keen msg or call me on 0412519731
I have 2 rifles at my disposeable and can share for those who don't have one and save some costs of hireing one. just chip in for bullets. After if anyone wants to have a lash in the patrole we could do that too. From memory it's about 20 dollars for range time and a couple of targets plus rifle hire and ammo. I use a 22/250 ( both rifles) and it's about 24 dollars for 20 rounds

hekarewe
25th March 2012, 10:15 PM
I would be up for ripple but belmont would be a bit out of the way for me and yes might be up for a bit of a wheel around ripple

macca86
25th March 2012, 11:12 PM
Ripley it is then. I haven't had a drive out at ripley wouldn't mind seeing how far my bog standard gu can go
What time is good for you? Was thinking 10am to 12pm for the range and then a bit of a blat around the bush

G'day chaps I'm in the process of basic gearing up for hunting 4wd weekends in the state forests of nsw as I'm living in Sydney. I have several bang sticks and can't think of a better combination of big boys toys to play with. When the bush dries out I post a report.
Cheers

And in saying that (as I may have missed them in the ones that didn't load), where's the dead elephants, rhinos and other endangered wildlife??? lol. They are photo bucket thumbnails as I'm too lazy to resize all my pics. I can see them on my pc no worries. I have not shot anything besides skippy but that's not impressive enough to put up. These were recon pictures to see where all the animals were. The dogs have left as the place has been baited and no luck last week as there was a fire that burnt 500 acres of land so was pointless hunting but was a good boys weekend any way. At least I'm getting closer to finding animals been studying how to/ what to do/not do before I had no idea

there's an old Garfield cartoon, where Garfield says something like 'It's not the having, it's the getting.'

In other words, the journey is important, sometimes more important than the destination - and that is often the case with hunting - it is not all about the kill, for most, anyway, I think.

Looks like you are having plenty of fun with the getting side of things :-)

you're right lads bang sticks unloaded and bolts removed and locked away before the booze comes out. Don't mind driving full off it though only on private property.

And you don't make friends with salad. A bbq should have 3 or more types of dead things IMHO!

4 if you include me thanks and ditto from me would not entertain going even to the range with a person if i had any doubts as their maturity with the bang sticks speaking of which might be heading down the range at ripple in a week or so if anyone else is up for it.

the more dead things on the BBq and the bigger the better and nothing beets BBqing something that you hunted and shot and cleaned yourself lol

Hi guys seeing as we have a long weekend next month it's time to arrange a forum hunting trip.
Leave on fri the 8th of june come home monday 11th. I have 2 places to camp on in stanthorpe. I will have 2 x 22/250's a mate of mine is looking at going and he has a few rifles so even if you have never shot before you can learn or shoot one of ours. the first 5 members get the go ahead as large numbers with the aim of taking meat would be hard/ unsafe. if you have any other properties or are interested let me know if your property is better than mine then I'm happy to travel 6 hrs any direction from brisbane for a good hunt.

that's what it is all about enjoying the bush seeing this great country with good friends and family and having a feed.
Stupid hippies and greenies calling us murderers and cave men etc. You'd think they'd be more educated that these are feral animals that destroy the native wildlife we do the favour to nature quite often at our expense. It's a way of life and not for everyone but at least I know where my meat comes from and lived a happy life. Just because your meat came frome wollies or coles doesn't mean your any less of a caveman than us!
Rant over I coped an earfull at a car park the other day as I have a sticker man was maent to hunt and fish! I told her to go suck on a soy bean probably farmed by child labour in asia to pay off a smuggling debt and I don't think she was impressed

Here's 2 of the 4 rabbits I shot on the weekend with my Remington 22/250 these 2 were a funny story we walked up on a promising area found some fresh scratchings and a single poo that was very fresh just said they have to be here somewhere then the pop out from a tree 20 m away the 250 was overkill at this distance sent them flying neck shots both of them. The other 2 were at night about 70 to 80 m on the run

We shall eat these both for tea tomorrow first time rabbit eaters. They wanted 20 bucks a bunny at the butcher all 4 cost me a dollar

G'day,

Had a look around a few state forests in jan but not a lot to report as they were baited :-(

Looking fwd to chasing some ferals in the state forests shortly & breaking in the new Steiner Extreme Predator Binos hopefully spotting a deer.

Correct no hunting on crown land state forests. No duck or bird hunting. Only private land only only plus side is we don't work to open seasons. Anything on the feral list is fair game year round.

Been working a bit lately been going on our family farm but mostly working on it rather than hunting it. Not much game to be had lately. I'm heading to cunnamulla in September hoping to get some pigs I hope and do this to it
