Information we are looking for is noise, grip, look, wear, handling, recommended PSI or any other information that members find useful and is relevant to the tyre type.

Please post your comments/feedabck and vote in the poll to show your tyre type preference.

Since owning my '04 GU i have used a number of different tyres as i don't know much about 4x4ing i had no idea what to put on it. On all my other cars i have used Yokkies and found them extremely good, so thought go for them on the 4by and i am very very happy with them. I do drive mostly on the road and found that they have increased my fuel economy and have very good wear life. They also feel really comfortable underneath you. I have had them in the paddock and on small tracks on the farm and grippped very well.

Would recomend them to anyone.

Been using them on my Safari for the last 4 days..Its a Geo MT 315/75/16. This is my first 315/16 tires. So far they seems to handle pretty well on road, acceptable noise as for MT tires and moderate aggressive look to me. Didn't have chances yet on wet tarmac and off road. My 33'' Cooper STT last me 50k kms through halfway the threads. Will see hows this Yokos go..time will tell. 35psi atm.

Have some geolanders, top pic tread pattern.
had asphalt use only, good grip in the dry and wet.

but think they dont displace excess water to well due to tread pattern.
left from centre block expels water outwards.
but right from centre draws water back to centre.
this is noticeable at hy-way speed in the wetter conditions.
and compared to previous experience/tyres A/T.
groves are wide and deep enough but pattern is sus with excess water
and looking at bottom pic it looks like reverse to what I just described.

quiet on asphalt, drone on flush seal
running 42psi.
shoulders seem to wearing first.
hard enough at 42 and 40 recommended by 2 different tyre fitters
possible 2 many round-abouts and driving style.
but I noticed them on a older lightweight hi-lux and could see the same sort of wear.
so Id hazard a guess bit soft on outter shoulders.
If they keepon the same way 90k should see em out.

if they were better with excess wet I'd possibly buy again.
leaning towards coopers for next set

cheers

funny you say that, guess where I'm going soon. lol.
yeah mate slow down blar blar.
I'm not complaining about outter wear so much as I said 90k , I hope.
and they are good at grippen the surface on the black stuff.
It's the water problem that really spooks me.
I'm serious about this water problem and wish to warn others.
I am a fan of yok's but that may change.

manufactures can make some pretty wild claims at times.
I remember fitting a set of new bute rubbers to a sigma ( real power house there) yrs ago as a teen and they were absolute pure garbage, yet a huge advertising campaign at the time claim to fame was good in the wet and dry and went to great length to prove it . they dissapeared from the market as quick as they appeared.

I had a set of 285/16 M/T's lasted about 35k with 90% road use and over 60% worn out (stuffed for mud) . Pressures were always adjusted accordingly and road manners were exellent. I'll never use them again as the soft rubber wears very quickly. I'm on a 265 A/T now until i decide which muddy to buy next. So my conclusion ,they're great but not for long.

My input above on wet road condition needs a correction.
It turns out the wheels were out of round and upsetting the vehicles balance, this was further aggravated on a wet surface.
Once the rims were swapped out the tyres manner in the wet improved alot.
I now must say their road holding abilities seem very good all-round on Rd .

I now have some coopers ST's on the GU and I'm a little perplexed.
the yoks better on rd and lower side of equal off road "in the dry".
coopers are suppose to be stronger walled etc and deeper tread from new, but yoks grip Alot better on rd.
it is possible the yoks geolander ats are coping better with lighter GQ, but the tyre loads are both above std load requirements on both vehicles.
so I'm putting it down to cooper's are proberly a harder compound.
the Yoks now have about 80k and still going but treads getting down abit.
mostly rd klms 95%.
Yok's haven't been balanced, rotated much really so life span is very good considering.
so far Id say yoks for rd and cooper off rd.
but i'ts early days for mr cooper.
